THE FOUNDING OF RIVER VALLEY VETTES

THE FOUNDING OF RIVER VALLEY VETTES The Conception of River Valley Vettes A Brief History of our RootsSometime during the summer of 1991, whispers began to filter through the rank and file about the idea of a local Corvette Club in the Fredericton Area.
Jerome Connors and I first mentioned the idea at one of the Wednesday night “Cruise to the Mall” with the Freddy Beach Mopars. At first, I was reluctant because of the failure of our Corvette Club in the 70’s but started to warm up to the idea with my newly found interest in the restoration of my 76. Jerome had been speaking with Andy McMicking of Nackawic and Roger Anderson of Charters Settlement concurrently and it seemed there was an interest with the few who had been contacted.
The next stop was a meeting with the few interested individuals to formally discuss where we wanted to go from here and what steps had to be taken. We picked up a few more interested Vetters at the Mopars meet at Woolastook Park in September of 1991. It was not until February of 1992 that Jerome Connors, Andy McMicking, Roger Anderson, Jackie and I met for the first time at the Hilltop Pub in Fredericton to discuss a formal meet.
At this meeting, we decided to put out a flier outlining the conception of a Corvette Club to see how many Vetters would be interested in the formation of a Club. The flier was posted all over the Fredericton and Oromocto areas and the first meeting was planned for March 24th at the Condor Motor Lodge. Word seemed to spread quickly because over the next few weeks, we managed to excite approximately 30 individuals who were present at the March 24th gathering.
From there, things became club history and are recorded in the first set of minutes taken by Jackie.
It was agreed upon by all who decided to formally join the Club, that our aim should always be to keep it simple and that the cars come first. “FUN FIRST BUT CARS FOREMOST”.Our first year was very successful and we have accomplished many things in short period of time.
Yours truly River Valley Vettes
